The Free Poker Tournament: Does it Exist? YOU BET!
“Free poker tournament?” you’ve probably said to yourself at some point in your life. “What a stupid idea! There’s no such thing as a free poker tournament. That game, that poker game, is played with money only. You can’t have a free version of it, whether it’s just a normal game or a tournament. It just doesn’t happen.”
Well, you’re wrong. There is a free poker tournament available out there. In fact there are probably dozens of those tournaments being played right now – and most of them are probably online. Thanks to the Internet it’s incredibly easy to get in on a free roll tournament and have the chance of winning some money.
Granted, you’re not likely to make much at first, if you win at all. There are typically a lot of players in a tournament like this, and many of them are very good at what they do. *But guess what? There are also likely to be a lot of really bad players. It’s these players that you must bank on, and then overcome. And you can do that by developing a steady strategy, not only one to be used for an entire game but specific strategies against specific opponents.
Why would you do this? Because you’ll be seeing the same poker opponents over and over again. Count on it. So it’s always to your advantage during these tournaments to take notes on your opponents to see how they act throughout each round of poker play. Know your opponents and you’ll be able to counter them every time.
When sitting in at such a tournament you need to start out conservatively. Let the crazy players who bet high fizzle out quickly. Just stay in as long as you can. Once the field has narrowed and you’re up against some superior forces, be a bit more free with your bidding and try to take control of your table. Try to finish within at least the first four places, though it’s always ideal to finish first whenever possible, as you’ll not only build a reputation for yourself but win some cash.
