Getting Used To Online Poker Rooms

Looking to take advantage of some online poker rooms? Slow down a bit before you do. Though you have a great idea on your hands – online poker rooms are a great way to rake in some money, especially if you’re already an accomplished poker player - there are a great deal of differences between online play and playing with your friends around a table at home. Learn them before you take the dive.

First, some advantages. Online poker rooms are great because you’re going to make more money in the end. Since it requires a great deal less capital on the casinos’ part to keep a server running as opposed to a brick and mortar, real life casino, the rake to your earnings and bets will be a great deal less. These rooms also run 24/7, so you can play poker pretty much whenever you want online and be assured of finding opponents to earn money off of. You can also play multiple tables in these rooms – only do this if you can keep track of things, of course – thus giving you many more chances to win. You’re also able to keep track of your moves and the moves of your opponents in an online notebook – most casinos offer this, anyway – so you can know which moves you messed up on, not to mention keep track of your opponent’s habits. More to this end, your records are kept neat and tidy in summary boards, so you can look back on your wins, losses, and previous matches. This includes looking at those of your opponents.

But there are some downsides, as well. Unfortunately the concept of seeing your poker opponent is usually thrown out the window by the fact that the whole thing is played online. As such you can only rely on text messages in rooms – if there are any – plus the timing of bets to determine if a given player is bluffing or not. This can be especially difficult for veteran players to get used to, as they’re accustomed to reading the facial expressions and nervous tics of their opponents.
