People may be unaware of the fact that the bridge cards are actually much smaller than the poker cards. The card that is used in a game of bridge is actually ¼ inch smaller than the card used for poker. Games can be played using any cards, so why exactly are the cards smaller in one game to the poker card? If a player can play games such as spades, pitch, hearts and euchre with any sized card, why can’t poker?
Lots of people have different theories as to why the size of the cards is different when playing poker; let’s look at some varying theories now.
One theory for the poker card being a different size is a feminist one. Some people believe that because bridge was classed as a woman’s game and poker was a man’s game, the poker card is bigger than the bridge card.
Another theory is the Texan theory. The poker card is made as large as it is because of the big game of Texas Holdem.
There is also an American theory. Seeing as though many people believe that Americans are bigger and wilder than others, the poker card is made to reflect their large personalities.

When magicians use cards for tricks, they tend to lean towards using the bridge set of cards. This is simply because they are easier to hold and move around for tricks with them being smaller than their poker counterparts.
Many of the cards used by licensed companies for sale are actually the poker card size. This may be a fact that many do not realize – The large size cards used as the jumbo pack are no bigger than the poker cards. They simply have the print larger to make them a lot easier to see and to read.
Unbeknown to many, the poker cards used in the casinos are actually the size of bridge cards.
